About the Behavioral Health Urgent Care Center

Located on the campus of Luminus Health Anne Arundel Medical Center, the clinic will serve those in need of short-term urgent care to manage a mental health or substance use disorder.

Interdisciplinary staff includes Peer Support Specialists, Mental Health Clinicians, Registered Nurses, and Nurse Practitioners. The Urgent Care Clinic provides interventions for psychiatric conditions as well as coordination of care for any medical conditions with which a patient may be suffering. The clinic will coordinate support services and create a person centered aftercare plan in order to strengthen the path to recovery and wellness.

When to Visit the Clinic

    • Experiencing moderate to severe psychiatric symptoms that require assessment and intervention
    • Symptoms are likely to worsen without prompt treatment, including the initiation of medications
    • The individual is safe but needs immediate care and can wait 2-3 hours for treatment to begin
    • Daily activities have become difficult, and previously enjoyable activities or hobbies have lost their appeal
    • The individual is struggling with a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and is ready to start treatment
    • The individual is dealing with an Opiate Use Disorder (OUD) and is interested in starting medication-assisted treatment (Suboxone may be initiated during the first visit if symptoms permit)
    • The patient would benefit from involvement in person-centered treatment planning

When to Visit the Emergency Room

  • Experiencing extreme agitation and resistance to mental health treatment
  • First-time onset of severe psychiatric symptoms such as cognitive decline, memory loss, difficulty concentrating, extreme fatigue, or severe depressive thoughts (these may be linked to an underlying medical issue)
  • Imminent risk of harm to oneself or others due to mental health symptoms
  • Self-harm that requires immediate medical attention to stabilize
  • Disturbances in thought processes leading to risky thoughts or behaviors and an inability to ensure personal safety
