History of The Arundel Lodge

About Arundel Lodge

Arundel Lodge is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a world where behavioral health disorders are not a barrier to living a meaningful and fulfilling life. We believe every individual deserves access to compassionate care, supportive services, and opportunities to thrive within their community.

As part of a broader network of community support, Arundel Lodge works to prevent behavioral health crises while providing integrated mental health and substance use services that help individuals build healthy, productive, and connected lives.

Our History

Arundel Lodge was founded in 1975 by a group of dedicated parents who recognized the urgent need for community-based support for their adult children living with behavioral health disorders. At the time, many individuals were being released from state psychiatric hospitals without adequate long-term community care or resources.

What began as a grassroots effort to provide support and stability has grown into one of the region’s most respected integrated behavioral healthcare organizations. Today, Arundel Lodge serves more than 3,000 individuals each year throughout Anne Arundel County and surrounding communities.

As a CARF-accredited organization and recognized Center for Excellence in Recovery, we remain committed to the Recovery Model — an approach that emphasizes hope, dignity, respect, and empowerment. We believe recovery looks different for every person, and we strive to honor each individual’s strengths, goals, interests, and personal choices throughout treatment.

Through therapy, medication management, substance use treatment, supportive housing, employment support, urgent care services, and community-based programs, Arundel Lodge continues to provide compassionate, person-centered care that helps individuals reconnect with their communities and build meaningful lives.

Our Mission & Vision

Improving the lives of children, adults, and families impacted by mental health and substance use disorders.

Vision

To be an essential member of a community network that helps prevent behavioral health disorders and provides the care and support people need to lead healthy, productive lives.

IDEA Statement

At Arundel Lodge, we are deeply committed to fostering Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) within all aspects of our work. We believe that true access extends beyond the basic availability of services; it encompasses the universal principle of ensuring that every individual, regardless of their abilities, background, or circumstances, has the opportunity to fully participate and thrive within our programs and community.

Our dedication to access is rooted in our commitment to breaking down barriers that have historically excluded people from essential resources like healthcare, support services, and community engagement. We recognize that accessibility is not just a physical consideration, but also a matter of flexibility and accommodation, ensuring that individuals with disabilities can engage meaningfully and comfortably in every aspect of our work.

By integrating the principles of IDEA into our organizational practices, we strive to create an environment where diversity is celebrated, equity is ensured, and every individual has the support they need to lead a fulfilling life. Together, we are making a difference in our community by advancing a vision of inclusivity and access for all.
