History of The Arundel Lodge

Our History

Arundel Lodge was established in 1975 by a group of concerned parents who recognized the urgent need for appropriate care for their adult children with behavioral health disorders after their release from institutional settings. At the time, a government policy from 1955 had begun transitioning individuals out of state psychiatric hospitals, but no comprehensive plan was in place to support them once they returned to the community. Today, Arundel Lodge stands as one of the most respected integrated treatment centers in the region, providing care to over 3,000 community members annually. Recognized as a Center for Excellence in Recovery and accredited by CARF, we embody hope—re-imagined. Through our commitment to the Recovery Model, which emphasizes treating individuals with respect and acknowledging their unique strengths, interests, and goals, we empower individuals to take charge of their treatment decisions. We foster opportunities for social connection, creative expression, and community engagement, serving Anne Arundel County and beyond.
